Rainbow Wahine Punzal earns WAC honors

DENVER — University of Hawai'i soccer player Mari Punzal was named Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week today.

The freshman forward from Kapa'a, Kaua'i, scored a goal and had one assist in Friday's season-opening 4-0 win over No. 26 Kansas. It was the Rainbow Wahine's first-ever win over a ranked opponent.

Idaho goalkeeper Anna Sandman was named WAC defensive player of the week.

Tehane Higa of Hawai'i was nominated for defensive player of the week.

The Rainbow Wahine (1-0) play Auburn tonight in the final game of the No Ka Oi Tournament at 7 p.m. at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
