  • Kapi'olani Community College and the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs' Native Hawaiian Revolving Fund, will offer a 51-hour course in entrepreneurship, "START YOUR DREAM," during the Fall 2007 term. The practical, hands-on class is designed for people who want to start a business, turn a hobby into a money-making venture, or get their business plan ready to present to a loan officer. Topics include planning, marketing, advertising, selling strategies, marketing research, financial statements, computer logistics, pricing; regulatory, tax and legal concerns; and resources, lenders and lending. The classes will be offered 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Sept. 13, through Nov. 15, KCC campus, Manono Building, Room 104.   • The state REAL ESTATE COMMISSION has several Big Island events scheduled as part of its regular commission committee meetings this month. The commission will convene standing committee meetings 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. next Monday, in the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort, Naupaka III Ballroom: Laws and Rules Review Committee, followed by the Education Review Committee, Laws and Rules Review Committee, and Condominium Review Committee.

    Meanwhile, Big Island real-estate professionals and condominium owners will have a chance to take their concerns straight to the commission at a "SPECIALISTS OFFICE FOR THE DAY." The chance to bring real-estate-related concerns — including licensing laws, continuing Realtor education and certification, and condo boards and association matters — will be scheduled simultaneously with commission standing committee meetings, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Information/appointments required: 808-586-2643, or www.hawaii.gov/hirec.

    Also, a free seminar, "A CLOSER LOOK AT THE NEW CONDOMINIUM LAW," will be offered by the commission from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Hotel, Waikoloa. The seminar also will be offered from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Sept. 11 at Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai'i in Hilo. Topics will include condominium owners' rights and responsibilities; duties and responsibilities of boards of directors, managing agents and resident managers; prospective purchasers, as well as matters of interest to real estate licensees, developers and their attorneys, related professions and the general public.   • Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will kick off a Leadership Luncheon Lecture Series Thursday, sponsored by the new Asia Pacific College. He will speak on "Mayor Mufi's 12 Maxims on Leadership," at the luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Ala Moana Hotel, Garden Lanai. The discussion series is meant to provide businesses and government leaders in the Asia-Pacific community with the knowledge and inspiration to cope with changes sweeping the region, and broaden their perspectives on global economics, politics, business and environmental issues.
