  • The American Marketing Association's Hawai'i chapter has recognized Hawai'i Pacific University as the Islands' 30th Marketer of the Year at the Marketer of the Year Awards. AMA Hawai'i also acknowledged the Hawai'i Visitor and Convention Bureau's "Picture Hawai'i Contest" as the state's best campaign involving e-marketing; Wahoo's Fish Taco's grassroots branding efforts as the state's best campaign in marketing of a new product or service; and the Pacific Aviation Museum - Pearl Harbor's "Grand Opening Membership Drive" as the state's best marketing campaign by a nonprofit.

  • The Tony Group Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization established by Tony Masamitsu, founder and chairman of the board of the Tony Group, has donated $42,000 in the past 11 years to assist high school graduates from Central and Leeward O'ahu areas with their pursuit of higher education.

    Recipients, chosen on the basis of academic and extracurricular excellence as determined by the scholarship committees of each high school, include Candace Chang, Kapolei High School; Russell Totentino, Pearl City High School; Sabrina Kawana, Mililani High School; Sarah Crystal Martin, Campbell High School; Rainner Rapanut, Waipahu High School; Rabelle Bruno, Waialua High School; Daniza Racahot, Leilehua High School; Lehela Silva-Kanagusuku, Nanakuli High School; Kekoa Kamalani, Wai'anae High School; and Ashley Primacio, 'Aiea High School.

  • The MAlama Learning Center, designed by Eight Inc., has been recognized in the Unbuilt Architecture category by the American Institute of Architects local chapter. The multiuse structure, to be built on the campus of Kapolei High School, is designed to promote education and awareness about the environment and sustainability through creativity — especially relating to its setting close to schools and natural areas such as Honouliuli Preserve and Pu'uokapolei landmark. Architecture and design studio Eight Inc. has offices in Honolulu, San Francisco and New York, and has won awards for clients such as Apple, Coach, Virgin Atlantic Airways, 2100 Kalakaua and King Kalakaua Plaza.
