'From the Top' returns to Hawaii in November

Advertiser Staff

The National Public Radio hit show "From the Top" returns to Hawaii for the third time under the auspices of Hawaii Public Radio in November.

General ticket sales to the public begin on Saturday, Sept. 22.

A three-week advance ticket sale window for HPR members and those who belong to the membership of either the Hawaii Theatre Center or the Maui Arts and Cultural Center began Sept. 1. Membership entitles the purchaser to a $5 discount for all but the lowest priced tickets at either theater.

Tickets to the performances are available only at the theater box offices.

Young classical musicians selected to appear on the two Hawai'i tapings will be announced by the program's music director in October.

"From the Top" is broadcast by National Public Radio. The young musicians who win their way onto the program are featured in performance and in comedy sketches and games.

The show is hosted by acclaimed concert pianist Christopher O'Riley. It's heard on Hawaii Public Radio every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on KHPR 88.1 Honolulu; KKUA 90.7 Wailuku and KANO 91.1 Hilo.

A 13-program half-hour PBS adaptation of the program, "From the Top: Live From Carnegie Hall," which is taped at Carnegie Hall in front of a live audience, is broadcast in Hawai'i every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. by PBS Hawaii.

The performance in Honolulu's Hawaii Theatre is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
