CFB: NCAA tosses out lightning-shortened game

Associated Press

MARYVILLE, Mo. — An Aug. 23 football game between Northwest Missouri State and Arkansas Tech will be tossed out without consequence to either team after being called in the first quarter because of lightning.

The NCAA said today the decision was made Friday during a conference call with the two schools and that neither team will be credited with a win or a loss.

With dangerous storms moving into Maryville, play was halted with 2:30 left in the first quarter and Northwest Missouri State ahead 21-0.

The NCAA said football games must last at least three quarters before becoming official.
