North-South Road in Kapolei gets $12 million

Associated Press

More than $12 million in state funds has been released for the second phase of the North-South Road project in Kapolei.

The road will connect Kapolei Parkway to the H-1 Freeway.

The state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is allocating an additional $6 million for the construction of water and sewer lines required during the second phase of the project.

The state broke ground on the more than two-mile, six-lane highway in February 2005.

The long-awaited North-South Road will provide area residents an additional route to and from the freeway. It will also supplement the two existing north-south routes — Fort Barrette Road and Fort Weaver Road.
