Hotel occupancy drops in July, average room rate soars

Hawai'i hotel occupancy dropped by 5.6 percentage points in July while the average room rate hit a new record for the month, according to a report released today.

The average occupancy rate statewide fell to 81.0 percent, according to the report from Hospitality Advisors LLC.

The average daily room rate statewide grew by 4.6 percent to $210.49, representing a new record high for the month of July, according to the report. But softer demand meant that the average revenue per available room dipped by 2.2 percent to $170.57 statewide.
