Oahu ferry on display Sept. 16 at Aloha Tower

Advertiser Staff

As Hawai'i's top 'ukulele talents compete at Aloha Tower Marketplace on Sept. 16, O'ahu's new commuter ferry — named TheBoat — will hold an open house at Pier 9 by Gordon Biersch from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

With the events simultaneously beginning at 10 a.m., guests may watch Hawai'i's top amateurs compete in the second annual 'ukulele contest and then head over to Pier 9 to take a casual tour of TheBoat, Honolulu's new passenger-only ferry. There will be balloons and cookies for the keiki, information, route maps and a representative of TheBoat to answer any questions.

TheBoat, about 72 feet in length with a 28-foot beam (width), is a twin hull catamaran capable of a speed of 25 knots. ] It will run Monday through Friday, accepting as fare either a bus pass, bus transfer or $2. Amenities include hot and cold beverages and comfortable seating for up to 149 passengers. The trip duration from Kalaeloa to Aloha Tower is estimated at one hour.
