TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

Pro football opener, 2 and 2:30 p.m., NBC. The game (at 2:30) has last year's champions (Indianapolis Colts) hosting last year's Cinderella team (New Orleans Saints). It could be good. First, however, is the annual season-opening concert. It's from two spots in Indianapolis, with Kelly Clarkson, John Mellencamp and Faith Hill.

OF NOTE

"Kim Possible," noon to 6 a.m., Disney Channel. Here's the middle of a three-day marathon for this clever cartoon about a teen super-agent. At 8 p.m. catch: "The Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama."

"Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" debut, 7, 8, 9 and 11 p.m., Bravo. Don't expect snarky sarcasm in this makeover show. Tim Gunn — former head of the Parsons design school, current chief creative officer for the Liz Claiborne company — is elegant in manner and look. He gently guides his people; the first happens to be an easy one. Rebecca Pennino says she has moved 20 times and keeps trying futilely to copy the look around her. She's spent much of her life trying to hide what Gunn correctly points out is a pleasantly shaped body.

"Ugly Betty," 7 p.m., ABC. In a rerun, Betty has troubles at home but must plan a party for the assistants, at a medieval restaurant.

"Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" season opener, 7 p.m., Fox. The official start of the new season is still 18 days away, so "5th Grader" gets the punctuality-plus prize. This fun little game show could amuse people not into football.

"The Color Purple" (1985), 7:30 p.m., ABC Family. Steven Spielberg's epic masterpiece balances harsh lives with visual beauty and soaring music. Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover lead the splendid cast.

"Don't Forget the Lyrics" season opener, 8 p.m., Fox. Here's another network game show with a way early start.

"Grey's Anatomy," 8 p.m., ABC. In the midst of chaos — the clinic opens, a disease spreads, George and Callie have an announcement — Meredith's mother has a sharp change. It's a great rerun.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Grissom receives a new, miniature crime scene, in this rerun. That startles him, because the original miniature-maker has been killed.
