Advertiser Staff

Air Force Week Honolulu officially kicks off today with a proclamation ceremony set for 10:30 a.m. at Honolulu Hale.

During the ceremony, Mayor Mufi Hannemann will read, sign and present a proclamation to Gen Paul V. Hester, Pacific Air Forces commander. The proclamation recognizes the sacrifices of the men and women of the U.S. Air Force, now 60 years old, and Hickam Air Force Base as the center of Air Force presence in Hawai'i for more than half a century.

The Air Force Band of the Pacific, "Hana Hou" will provide entertainment before and after the event.

Honolulu is one of six cities in the United States along with Phoenix, Sacramento, St Louis, Boston and Atlanta designated to host Air Force Week, a weeklong event celebrating the Air Force's 60th anniversary through entertainment and air and space power.
