Steel Guitar Sunday coming up at Shore Bird in Waikiki

Outrigger Reef on the Beach hosts Steel Guitar Sunday, a kick-back jam session from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Shore Bird Restaurant and Beach Bar, alongside Waikiki's new, improved Beach Walk. The event returns each second Sunday of the month.Some of Hawai'i's finest steel guitarists, including Alan Akaka (pictured), Greg Sardinha, Bobby Ingano and Casey Olsen, anchor the show. Other steel guitarists are invited to sit in, and all are welcome to hear the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the distinctively tuned instrument, which traces its roots to Hawaiian musicians of the plantation/paniolo era.
