Hawaii MDA needs help finding van stolen from family

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Muscular Dystrophy Association Goodwill Ambassador Damon Kaneakua is the victim of theft, association officials said.

They said the Kaneakua family van was stolen Thursday morning from a residential area along Bingham Street in Honolulu.

Taken was a white 2002 Dodge Caravan Sport Van, license plate MHY 578.

Inside the van were infant car seats, diapers, laundry and Damon's coin collection

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is asking the public to help Damon Kaneakua, his mother Waylin, two younger sisters Malia and Aeries along with grandparents Warren and Sophia find their van.

Kaneakua was previously diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which is characterized by general muscle weakness and wasting affecting the pelvis, upper arms and upper legs.

The family recently purchased the van to help transport Damon and his wheelchair to school and activities.
