Kumu Kahua hosts playwrighting contest

Kumu Kahua 2007 playwriting contest is accepting original scripts of dramas or comedies that depict some aspect of the Hawaiian experience.

Entries are due Jan. 2.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories:

i Hawaii prize, $600, open to residents and non-residents, of works set in Hawaii or deal with some aspect of Island life.

i Pacific rim prize, $450, open to residents and non-residents, of works about the Pacific Islands, the Pacific rim, or the Pacific-Asian experience.

i Resident prize, $250, open only to Hawaii residents at the time of submission, on any topic.

The contest is co-sponsored by the University of Hawaii-Manoa Theatre and Dance Department. Winning works are usually produced by Kumu Kahua.
