Hawaii aquaculture sales fell 25% to $21M in 2006

Hawai'i aquaculture sales fell 25 percent to $21.3 million in 2006, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Algae sales accounted for 56 percent of the value at $11.9 million. Finfish and shellfish categories each amounted to $2.4 million, or 11 percent apiece of the total. Hawai'i County continued to lead the state in aquaculture sales with $17.5 million or 82 percent of the total value.Sales from Honolulu, Kaua'i and Maui counties accounted for the remaining 18 percent of market value.
