Services for former Kaua'i Mayor Eduardo "Mala" E. Malapit will be Sept. 15 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Koloa.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with services to follow. A private committal service will follow the funeral Mass.

Malapit died Aug. 27 at age 74. He served as Kaua'i County mayor from 1974 to 1982, and before that served eight years on the County Council.

He was also a former attorney, prosecuting attorney, part-time magistrate and chairman of the state labor department.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sons, Kevin, Lon, Kent and Lyle; sisters, Julia Smith and Aurora Lo; brothers, William, Mark, Earl and Manuel; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
