Police keeping tabs on large groups of road racers

Advertiser Staff

Police are responding to a report that 25 to 30 vehicles were spotted racing in the westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the Waikele off-ramp.

Police received a call on the matter about 12:40 a.m.

It is common for large numbers of young drivers with souped-up Honda's and other cars to travel in large groups and occasionally race one another on weekend nights on Oahu.

The racing usually stops once police show up.

Another large group of cars, perhaps 100 or more, was spotted on the H-3 Freeway headed toward the airport about 12:50 a.m., said police, who are keeping tabs on both groups of cars.
