CFB: Lightning halts Purdue-Eastern Illinois game

Associated Press

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue-Eastern Illinois game was halted before the start of the third quarter and fans were evacuated from Ross-Ade Stadium because of lightning.

Purdue was leading 31-3, and both teams had returned to the field for the second half before the game was stopped. The stadium has metal bleachers and fans were ordered to leave.

It was the first time a Purdue home game had been suspended since 1989, sports information director Tom Schott said.

Purdue quarterback Curtis Painter threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
