Small earthquake rolls over ocean floor near Big Island

A small but measurable earthquake took place beneath the ocean's surface near the Big Island Saturday night.

The quake, which was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 3.0, occurred at 9:22 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey's

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory at the Hawaii National Park on the Big Islands.

The quake's epicenter was reported to be about 28 miles west-southwest of Honaunau.

There were no reports of injuries or damage associated with the temblor.
