The White Stripes coming to Hawaii for Oct. 10 show

Detroit-bred garage rock duo the White Stripes have set an Oct. 10 date for its first-ever Honolulu concert.

The critically-acclaimed rock and blues partnership of Jack and Meg White is set for a Blaisdell Arena show at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets priced at $40 will go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 877-750-4400 and at all Ticketmaster outlets.

The band's official Web site will offer a limited number of reserved seat tickets for sale starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow at www.whitestripes.com.

Formed in 1997, the White Stripes finally won serious recognition for their talents with the 2002 album "White Blood Cells," a hard-driving collection of minimalist rock tracks fueled almost solely by Jack White on guitar and Meg White on drums. Though it peaked at No. 61 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart that year, the album made the final cut of dozens of music critics' 2002 best-of-year lists. The disc also spawned the breakthrough modern rock radio hit "Fell In Love With A Girl."

The White Stripes followed the critical success of "White Blood Cells" with popular success for its fourth album "Elephant" in 2003 and fifth disc "Get Behind Me Satan" in 2005. Both discs received Grammy awards for best alternative music album.

A virtuoso multi-instrumentalist, Jack White has proven himself adept at working in multiple music genres on White Stripes albums and on discs with his power pop garage rock band The Raconteurs. After dedicating "White Blood Cells" to country legend Loretta Lynn, Jack White produced, paired for a song and played a mix of instruments on her critically acclaimed 2004 comeback album "Van Lear Rose."

Jack White also contributed music to the soundtrack of the 2003 film "Cold Mountain" and played a small role in the film.

The White Stripes are currently touring behind their June release "Icky Thump," which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.
