Associated Press
LIHU'E, Hawai'i A crime sweep led by the U.S. Marshals Service on Kaua'i has netted 29 fugitives, mostly those who were arrested for outstanding drug cases. The federal agents joined sheriff's deputies, Kaua'i police, Big Island police and the prosecutor's office in a four-day crackdown last week.
The service says the surprise sweep focused on apprehending fugitives who thought they wouldn't have to answer outstanding warrants.
The sweep lasted from sunrise Tuesday to sunset Friday and resulted in 42 outstanding warrants being cleared or executed. Five additional drug charges were also filed.
Besides drug crimes, arrests were made in assault, sexual-assault and family-abuse cases.
