Honolulu police investigate bogus traveler's checks

Advertiser Staff

Two women were arrested in a 15-hour period for allegedly trying to cash counterfeit traveler's checks at different Honolulu locations.

Police said there's no evidence to indicate the cases are connected.

A Kaimuki woman, 39, was arrested today at 5:30 a.m. at the Wal-Mart store at 700 Ke'eaumoku St. for attempting to purchase items with a counterfeit $500 traveler's check.

Annie K. Ioane is being held on an oustanding $700 warrant while police conduct a second-degree forgery investigation on the bogus check.

Police yesterday arrested a 36-year-old woman at an unnamed financial institution in Wai'anae after employees detected the traveler's check was a fake.
