Big Island seeks police recruits

The Big Island police department is accepting applications for its next police recruit training class.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and be at least 21 years of age. They must also be qualified under state and federal law to own and carry firearms.

Starting salary is $43,020 a year, increasing to $47,412 after 18 months of employment. After four years on the county police force, officers will earn $55,476 a year.
