No Hawaii Superferry trip to Kauai planned this week

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Superferry does not plan to resume ferry service to Kaua'i this week, Superferry spokeswoman Lori Abe said today.

A Kaua'i judge on Friday turned down a request by environmentalists for a temporary restraining order to keep the ferry from Nawiliwili Harbor. The judge set a Sept. 17 hearing date on an injunction against the ferry.

The Coast Guard has announced federal security zones at the harbor and around the ferry that it believes will help ensure safe passage when service resumes.

Protesters had delayed and blocked the ferry when it came to Kaua'i last month.
