Advertiser Staff

Alaska Airlines said its purchased certain the bookings, brand and Web site of an Anchorage, Alaska-based tour company specializing in Hawai'i vacations as it gears up to begin daily flights between Anchorage and Honolulu in December.

Alaska Airlines said the purchase of Hawaiian Vacations Inc. is scheduled to be completed later this month and will include a transition period during which people who booked with Hawaiian Vacations will be switched to the airlines' flights.

It did not disclose terms of the transaction, which includes an agreement that Hawaiian Vacations stop marketing Hawai'i vacation packages and charter flights beginning Jan. 13.

The air carrier also announced it had begun offering a full line of Alaska-Hawai'i vacation packages through its www.alaskaair.com or through its toll-free reservations line.

"Our new Hawai'i packages offer the flexibility of flying any day of the week and the opportunity to earn or redeem Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles for flights," said Bill MacKay, an Alaska Airlines senior vice president, in a statement released to the press.

The air carrier's plans also call for daily flights between Seattle and Honolulu beginning Oct. 12 and between Seattle and Lihue starting Oct. 28.
