2 brothers arrested after series of Kauai brushfires

Two brothers are in police custody this morning following a series of brushfires in Puhi and Lihu'e that began at 10:30 last night.Joshua Wong, 24, and his brother Michael Wong Jr., 25, of Hanama'ulu were arrested at 3:04 this morning after calls from witnesses led police to the Niumalu area where the Wong brothers were located. They were charged with second-degree arson, according to a news release issued by Kaua'i Police Department officials.
According to a preliminary report, police officers and firefighters from the Hanapepe, Kalaheo, Kapa'a and Lihu'e fire stations responded to eight brushfires that broke out last night between 10:30 p.m. and 2:45 a.m., including at two locations on Halehaka Road in Puhi, Kaneka Street in Puhi, Ahukini Road near the Kapule Highway junction, Kuhi'o Highway across from the Roberts Hawai'i Tours base yard, Hanama'ulu Road, Isenberg Park and Lala Road near Kaua'i High School.
Firefighters from the Airport Crash Fire unit along with personnel from the Department of Public Works also responded to the fire. No air support was needed.
At midday all of the fires except for the fire off Ahukini Road were fully extinguished. Firefighters are on scene putting out hot spots. Some of the small fires were put out by responding police officers.
