Big Island firefighters snuff quarter-acre grass fire

Advertiser Staff

Firefighters from Waikoloa on the Big Island extinguished a small grass fire last night near the 15-mile marker on state Highway 190.

The fire, which burned about a quarter of an acre of state-owned property, was reported about 5:30 p.m. and took about an hour to extinguish completely, fire officials said.

The fire burned a patch of fountain grass growing on an old 'a'a lava flow, officials said.
