Preps: Waianae High homecoming parade is back

Advertiser Staff

Wai'anae High School will cap off its year-long 50th anniversary celebration tomorrow with its first homecoming parade in more than a quarter of a century, from 3 to 4 p.m. Floats, bands and nine former homecoming queens will be part of the parade, which will move from Poka'i Bay to Wai'anae High School.

The parade will precede the homecoming dinner and football game between ninth-ranked Leilehua (2-2, 1-1 O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Division) and host third-ranked Wai'anae (4-0, 2-0). The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

The parade will also feature alumni, students, members of the community and Anita Korenaga, who was there when the school doors opened on May 2, 1957.

The last such parade was in 1979, according to school officials.
