Help sought finding Big Island man, 45

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in locating a Puna man who was reported missing yesterday.

Derek Lopes, 45, has been missing from his Kahakai Boulevard home since Monday morning. He is described at Caucasian, between 5 foot 9 and 5 foot 11, about 190 pounds with brown eyes and graying hair. He has a bald spot on his head and a large scar on his right shoulder. He often wears shorts and a baseball cap.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call Officer Lawrence Kobayashi at 808-961-2213 or the Police Department's nonemergency number at 808-935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona. All CrimeStoppers information is kept confidential.
