Part of Maui beach park closing for three months

Advertiser Staff

A section of Kama'ole Beach Park III on Maui will be closed for a sand dune restoration project, starting tomorrow.

The project is a joint effort between the county Department of Public Works and volunteers coordinated by Kihei residents Lis and Bob Richardson. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is providing sand dredged from the Kihei Small Boat Harbor.

Use of heavy construction equipment will require a three-month closure of the grassy area just north of the main parking lot. After the initial sand-delivery phase, closure will be limited to a smaller area to protect new grass and naupaka plantings.
