Hawaii tax-return preparer fined $60,000

Zenaida Lopez, a tax-return preparer and real-estate agent,has been fined $60,000 after pleading guilty to six felony tax-evasion counts and six misdemeanor charges.The state Tax Department said Circuit Judge Michael A. Town last week fined Lopez $2,500 for each misdemeanor count stemming from a failure to file returns. He also levied a $7,500 fine for each felony violation. Lopez also was placed on probation for five years.
