BLOCK PARTY IN WAIKIKI

The 55th annual Aloha Festivals Waikiki Ho'olaule'a, featuring eight stages of entertainment, food booths and scenes from Edgy Lee's documentary "Waikiki: In the Wake of Dreams," begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 along more than a dozen city blocks of Kalakaua Avenue.

Admission is free; expect traffic tie-ups and street closures. 589-1771.

BLOCK PARTY IN KALIHI

"A Taste of Kalihi," originally scheduled for Sept. 8, is now happening from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 along Colburn Street near Dillingham Plaza.

All are invited to take in the food, games, community and business booths, keiki games and car display. Entertainment is by Brother Noland, Tres Divas, the Royal Hawaiian Band and more.

Admission is free. Half of the proceeds will go to the Weed and Seed program; half to the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii Foundation. 386-3823.

DID ANYONE SAY BEER?

The Ala Moana Hotel's 37th annual Oktoberfest of suds, polka, chicken dancing and much celebrating is from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 9-11; 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 12-13; and 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 14.

Admission is $5 weekdays, $10 Friday through Sunday.
