UH adds assistant coach

Advertiser Staff

Cross country coach Michael Garrison has joined the University of Hawai'i track and field staff for this season in a part-time capacity. Garrison holds a PhD in kinesiology. He will be an assistant coach for cross country and track and field.

Garrison comes to the Rainbows from the University of Maryland, where he coached the cross country team the last three years. He was also assistant men's and women's track coach. Garrison guided the women's cross country team to its first national ranking (No. 29) two years ago.

He was also an assistant coach at Arkansas for six years, where he mentored 15-time All-American Amy Yoder-Begley, a two-time national champion and honored among the 2001 NCAA Women of the Year.

Under Garrison, the Razorbacks won five SEC cross country titles.
