Not often can teams be pleased with containing Kama Bailey to 291 yards. But 'Iolani coach Wendell Look was. He had good reason to be.

After two long touchdown runs by Bailey tied the game at 19 late in the first half, the Raiders scored 27 unanswered points to down Damien, 46-19, last night in Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II football at Aloha Stadium.

Quarterback Kela Marciel completed 20 of 26 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns and running back Justin Yamamoto rushed for 123 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders (2-2 overall, 1-0 ILH).

Bailey had 291 yards on 24 carries with TD runs of 72 and 41 yards, both in the second quarter. But that was all that was heard from the Monarchs' speedy back. He was limited to just 65 yards in the second half, but that is when the Raiders began to pull away, forcing the Monarchs into pass mode.

Cornerback Andrew Skalman had two interceptions for the Raiders, one against each Damien quarterback, James Skizewski and Stanon Pilialoha. Peter Takara also had an interception for 'Iolani.

Linebacker Jarom Baldomero had three tackles for losses, two against Bailey and one sack of Skizewski.

"For the most part, I thought we did a decent job on Bailey," 'Iolani coach Wendell Look said. "You're not going to contain him. He's going to get his (yards). He was amazing. We were fortunate to play team defense. We gang-tackled him. To hold them to 19 points, that's a pretty good effort right there."

But so was 'Iolani's running game with Yamamoto.

"We played physical and I was happy with that," Look said.

A back-breaker for Damien was a groin injury to defensive back/kickoff kicker Christian Vasconcellos.

That forced coach Brian Derby to use an inexperienced kicker on kickoffs and that might have made the difference. After Bailey's 41-yard TD with 1:10 left in the first half tied the game at 19, a short kickoff put the Raiders at midfield, setting up Marciel's 15-yard TD pass to Lionel Fujioka with 19 seconds left in the half to give 'Iolani a 26-19 lead into the half.

The Raiders scored on their first three series of the second half to break the game open.

Damien struggled with its passing game, despite the Raiders favoring the run, Derby said.

"We had guys open all night," Derby said. "We just couldn't hit 'em."
