Baseball: Along comes another Jones in Braves' lineup

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Outfielder Brandon Jones was added to the Atlanta Braves starting lineup after he was brought up from Class Triple-A Richmond on Sunday.

Braves manager Bobby Cox's lineup card includes three Jones — Chipper Jones at third base and Andruw Jones in center field.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Atlanta is the first major league team to start three players with the same last name since the Pittsburgh Pirates started three Browns on Sept. 29, 1999. Adrian Brown played in center field, Emil Brown in left and Brant Brown at first base.

Jones, making his major league debut, batted .300 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 44 games with Richmond, which won the International League title on Saturday. He batted .293 with 15 home runs and 74 RBIs in 94 games with Class Double-A Mississippi.
