Ukulele contest, boat tour free today at Aloha Tower

Advertiser Staff

The Aloha Tower Marketplace will conduct its second annual ukulele contest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the go! Center Stage.

The free event will feature amateur ukulele players vying for thousands of dollars in prizes, including a Kamaka concert ukulele and a Sonny D concert ukulele. The Ukulele Contest, in addition to showcasing some of Hawaii's best amateur ukulele musicians, will include appearances by Tj Mayeshiro (last year's winner), Chris Kamaka, Bryan Tolentino, and more; ukulele displays by popular ukulele brands including Kamaka, Leolani, and KoAloha; and door prizes for the audience.

In addition, TheBoat, Hawaii's new commuter ferry between downtown Honolulu and Kalaeloa, will hold an open house on Pier 9 (outside Gordon Biersch) from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will be balloons and cookies for the keiki, information, route maps and a representative of TheBoat to answer any questions. This event is also free and open to the public.
