Baseball: Thome's 500th HR gives White Sox 9-7 win

Associated Press

CHICAGO — Jim Thome hit his 500th homer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Chicago White Sox a 9-7 victory over the Los Angeles Angels today.

Thome became the 23rd player in major league history and third this season to reach 500 homers when he drove a 3-2 pitch from reliever Dustin Moseley to left-center, ending an 0-for-11 slump.

Thome raised his arm in the air as he rounded the bases. He was mobbed by teammates at the plate before hugging his father and his wife. His teammates later hoisted him on their shoulders

"It's hard to explain what's going through me right now," Thome said.
