Judiciary offers seminar on how, when to use a lawyer

The Hawai`i State Judiciary is sponsoring a free public informational session, "How and When to Use a Lawyer and How to Find One," from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Supreme Court conference room, 417 South King Street in Honolulu (behind the King Kamehemeha statue).Speaking will be Chief Judge Mark E. Recktenwald, who has served since May 2007 on the Intermediate Court of Appeals. Prior to his appointment as a judge, he was the Director of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs from 2003 to 2007. He was also an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawai`i, and worked as an attorney in private practice.
Judge Recktenwald will be joined by Evelyn Gomez, administrator of the Hawai`i State Bar Association's lawyer referral service, and Esther Laumatia, representing Volunteer Legal Services Hawai`i.
The Judiciary is offering this program as part of its monthly "Lunch 'n' Learn the Law" series. Volunteer presenters include judges, attorneys, court officials and other subject-matter experts who discuss topics related to specific areas of the law and the courts.
