SUNDAY'S MUST-SEES

"The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards," 8 p.m., Fox. The old and new collide. It's the first season of "Heroes" and the last of "The Sopranos." They're both up for best drama, against "House," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Boston Legal." It's also the first year for "Ugly Betty." It's up for best comedy, against last year's winner ("The Office"), plus "30 Rock," "Entourage" and "Two and a Half Men." There's also a mob of "Sopranos" actors — James Gandolfini and Edie Falco in leads, Michael Imperioli, Lorraine Bracco and Aida Turturro in support. Ryan Seacrest hosts.

"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" (2003), 8 p.m., ABC. Maybe this is the logical alternative for people not interested in the Emmys. It's an unrestrained comedy. Some moments, with Will Farrell as a self-absorbed anchor, are quite funny. Others, including an anchorman gang fight, are merely foolish.

OF NOTE

Football (NBC) and baseball (ESPN), 2 p.m. NBC has a rematch of last year's playoff battle between the New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers. ESPN has a classic, late-season face-off with the Yankees at the Red Sox.

"Unfabulous," 3:30 p.m., Nickelodeon. The season opener has Addie trying to win Jake in an auction so she can take him to the school dance. That launches a string of new episodes. It's the season opener of "Just Jordan" at 4, followed by "iCarly" at 4:30, "Drake & Josh" at 5 and the season-opener of "Zoey 101" at 5:30.

"Mystery: The Inspector Lynley Mysteries: One Guilty Deed," 8 p.m., PBS. The effort to prosecute a crime boss turns cold when the prime witness is killed. Then Havers feels solving a 20-year-old case could help unlock this one.

"Cold Case," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun the entire team is taken hostage.

"Design Star" finale, 9 p.m., HGTV. Viewers have voted now and tonight we'll find out which person will get an HGTV show. The finalists are Todd Davis, 35, a landscape architect from San Francisco, and Kim Myles, 34, a hairstylist from New York City.

"The 4400," 9 p.m., USA Network, and "Shark," 10 p.m., CBS. Billy Campbell has key roles in both. In the first (the season finale), he plays Jordan, escaping from The Marked. In the second (a rerun), he's a suspected serial killer.
