Baseball: Thomas homers twice, ties Ott at 511 on list

Associated Press

TORONTO — Frank Thomas homered twice off Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield today, giving him 511 for his career and tying Mel Ott for 20th on the career list.

Thomas hit a two-run homer in the first, then added a solo shot off the left-field foul pole in the sixth for a 4-1 Toronto lead. He has 39 homers off Boston pitchers, the most among active players.

It was the fourth multihomer game of the season for Thomas and the 33rd of his career. He also homered Saturday off Baltimore left-hander Kurt Birkins.
