NFL: Giants WR Smith out at least 2 weeks with injury

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Giants rookie receiver Steve Smith probably will miss at least two games with a broken shoulder blade.

Smith was hurt in the first quarter of the Giants 35-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers after catching a 10-yard pass.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said the second-round draft choice from Southern California would probably be listed as week-to-week after sitting out games at Washington and home against Philadelphia.

Receiver Plaxico Burress suffered ankle and pinky sprains yesterday but Coughlin felt he would be able to play at Washington.

The Giants also announced that backup defensive end Adrian Awasom suffered a fractured transverse process in his neck. The team had no other information about the injury.
