The Gas Co. and the state chapter of the American Red Cross will host a disaster preparedness event Saturday at the Kukui Grove Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

September is National Preparedness Month.

Organizations from across the island will share a variety of informational booths, demonstrations and information on how Kaua'i families can better prepare for the next civil emergency.

The Red Cross will tell families how to create a family disaster plan and build a disaster preparedness kit for their homes.
