Warriors gain top 20 in two polls

Advertiser Staff and News Services

With its 49-14 road victory over Nevada-Las Vegas Saturday night, the University of Hawai'i leaped into the top 20 of two polls yesterday.

The Warriors (3-0) earned 343 points to jump from 24th to 19th in the Associated Press poll, while collecting 404 points in moving from 22nd to 18th in the USA Today poll.

No. 1 Southern California recouped some of the first-place votes it lost to No. 2 LSU in the previous two weeks in the AP poll. USC received 46 first-place votes, up six from last week, and 1,605 points after a 49-31 victory at Nebraska.

The Tigers continued to impress with a 44-0 victory over Middle Tennessee, their second shutout of the season. LSU received 19 first-place votes and 1,577 points in the AP Top 25.
