CFB: No charges filed in sexual-assault probe
Associated Press
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. Police will not file charges in a suspected sexual assault that led to the suspension of nine Millersville University football players because the alleged victim refuses to cooperate, authorities said today. The 19-year-old woman and several witnesses reported the Sept. 2 encounter at party in an off-campus apartment.
Police said today that they decided to drop the case after consulting with prosecutors.
"Investigators met with the female victim on several occasions, however she has informed them that she no longer wishes to be involved in any criminal proceedings," Lancaster city police said in a statement.
The nine players were ordered to turn in their uniforms and have no contact with the football team, but are still allowed to attend classes. The university's separate internal investigation has not been concluded, a school spokeswoman said today. The players identities were not released.
Coach Joe Trainer earlier said the program would let the judicial system take its course.
The Division II team, which finished 5-6 last year, had 87 players on its roster at the start of the season.
