Lahaina water meters to be upgraded

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Water Supply has awarded a $3.8 million contract to Pacific Meter Services to upgrade Maui County's 35,000 water meters.

Meter readers now can download meter readings into a portable computer device in their vehicle. The technology was installed about 10 years ago.

Pacific Meter Services will be installing a new updated transponder in each meter and recording the location of each meter via GPS technology. It should take 10 to 15 minutes per meter. Lahaina will be the first phase of the project.

Pacific Meter employees have an ID badge and will be wearing green vests with a company logo on the back.
