NFL: Niners' Gore misses practice

Associated Press

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Running back Frank Gore didn't return from his mother's funeral in Miami in time for the San Francisco 49ers' practice today.

Coach Mike Nolan expects the Pro Bowl starter to be back in practice tomorrow with the 49ers, who face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Left tackle Jonas Jennings, fullback Moran Norris and running backs coach Bishop Harris all returned from Miami yesterday after attending the funeral of Gore's mother, Liz, who died of kidney disease Sept. 12. Nolan said Gore planned to watch film on the Steelers while he was back home.

Gore, who set a franchise record with 1,695 yards rushing last season, has just 136 in the 49ers' first two games. He has scored three of the 49ers' four touchdowns.
