Help sought in solving 1991 Big Island homicide

Police on the Big Island are asking for the public's help in providing information about a 1991 homicide.

The body of 16-year-old Jonelle Auna was discovered in Kona on Oct. 24, 1991. She was a runaway from the Puna area.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Sharlotte Bird of the Kona Criminal Investigations Section at 808-326-4646, ext. 272, or the Police Department's nonemergency number at 808-935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-329-8181 in Kona or 808-961-8300 in Hilo. Callers to CrimeStoppers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers who provide information that leads to an arrest or indictment may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. CrimeStoppers neither subscribes to "Caller ID" nor records phone calls.
