Hawai'i Guard team will train troops in Afghanistan

Associated Press

The Hawai'i Army National Guard will send a team to train troops in Afghanistan for the first time.

The team of senior-ranking officers and noncommissioned officers is being deployed as an Embedded Training Team to mentor a group of Afghanistan National Forces.

The 15-member team is deploying from Pearl City on Friday.

They'll first go to Fort Riley, Kan., for mobilization training before heading to Afghanistan.

About half the team has been previously deployed on other missions.
