East Hawaii council to discuss state budget priorities

Advertiser Staff

The governor's East Hawai'i Community Advisory Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Aupuni Center Conference Room, located at 101 Pauahi Street in Hilo.

The public is invited to attend.

The East Hawai'i Community Advisory Council has invited several agencies, including the Hilo Medical Center, University of Hawai'i–Hilo and the County of Hawai'i to make short presentations about their priorities for the upcoming supplemental budget.

The council also encourages other East Hawai'i community groups, nonprofit organizations, and individual citizens to attend the meeting and provide their input. The council will be compiling the input and drafting a priority list to submit to the governor later this year.

Gov. Linda Lingle created community advisory councils to give the Neighbor Islands a stronger voice in state government, according to a news release. The East Hawai'i Community Advisory Council holds monthly public meetings on the last Thursday of the month to seek community input and advise the governor of important issues, public priorities, and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
