Hawaii Women's Political Caucus elects board officers

The Hawai'i Women's Polical Caucus (HWPC) has announced the results of elections for its board of directors.

The following officers and directors were elected to two-year terms, 2007 to 2009, at a recent annual meeting and board meeting.

  • President — Faye Kennedy

  • Vice President — Nanci Kreidman

  • Vice President — Allicyn Hikida Tasaka

  • Secretary — Pua Auyong-White

  • Directors — Amy Agbayani, Diane Chang, Gladys Gerlich-Hayes, Alice Tucker and Joy Kobashigawa Lewis

    At the reception, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Senate Ways and Means Chair Roz Baker were honored for their outstanding leadership as progressive women holding elective office, according to a news release issued by the HWPC. State Senator Jill Tokuda, and State Representatives Della Au Belatti and Karen Awana shared their impressions as freshmen legislators. Congresswoman Mazie Hirono spoke of her experiences as a first term congresswoman. Dr. Donnis Thompson was acknowledged as a former HWPC president and women's athletics trailblazer whose sculpture will be dedicated in late October at the University of Hawai'i.

    The HWPC was established in 1981 and is a multi-partisan organization committed to increasing women's participation in the political process and increasing their representation in elected and appointed office. HWPC is dedicated to equality in employment, stopping all violence against women, and improving the health and well-being of women and families. Reproductive freedom is one of our most fundamental issues. The HWPC is a state chapter of the National Women's Political Caucus.
