Services set for fallen soldier, Leilehua High graduate

Advertiser Staff

Memorial services for Army Sgt. Alexander Gagalac, who was killed in Iraq, will be held on Wednesday and next Thursday.

The 1997 Leilehua High School graduate died on Sept. 9 after an improvised explosive device exploded by the Humvee he was riding in in Hawija, about 30 miles southwest of Kirkuk.

Gagalac, 28, was with the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry "Wolfhounds" out of Schofield Barracks, and was expected to return home next week after a more than year-long deployment to northern Iraq.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary's mauka chapel in Waipi'o off Ka Uka Boulevard.

On Sept. 27, visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by Mass from 11 a.m. to noon at the St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani.

After the Mass, a full military honors ceremony and burial will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. The services are open to the public.
